Will my L&P adjustable bed base work with an innerspring mattress?

Yes. L&P adjustable bed bases are compatible with *some innerspring, foam, and air mattresses. Today, many people prefer an innerspring or hybrid spring/foam mattress. But everyone is different and some people find their bliss sleeping on Latex, Cool Gel Foam, Memory Foam or an Air-Filled mattresses. Regardless of which you find most comfortable, you can still enjoy the restorative relaxation offered by an adjustable bed base.

*If you prefer an innerspring mattress, it is important to note that mattresses with a border wire are not compatible with adjustable bases. If possible, it’s a good idea to purchase your mattress and an adjustable base at the same time to create a personalized sleep system. Work with your retailer to help you find your perfect match.

Will my L&P adjustable bed base work with an air mattress?

Yes. L&P adjustable bed bases are compatible Luxury Air Mattresses like Sleep Number and Comfortaire.

Will my L&P adjustable bed base work with a foam mattress?

Yes. L&P adjustable bed bases are compatible with Latex Foam, Memory Foam and Cool Gel Foam mattresses. We reccomend limiting the height of the mattress to 12" or less. Why? If you buy a mattress that's too thick it will not bend correctly at your knees. Unless you're wearing lead shoes, your lower leg won't weigh enough to hold the mattress down. Then instead of being in a comfortable Zero-Gravity position you'll find yourself in a jack-knife position. Not really comfortable! Regardless of which foam mattress you find most comfortable, you can still enjoy the restorative relaxation offered by an adjustable bed base.

Do I need to buy a specific mattress brand to work with my L&P adjustable bed base?

No. Leggett & Platt adjustable bed bases work with most brands of innerspring, air, and foam mattresses. If you are shopping for a mattress, let your professional sales representative know that you are interested in an adjustable bed base and they will help you find an adjustable-friendly mattress to build your sleep system.

Do L&P adjustable bed bases come with a mattress?

No. Mattresses are sold separately.

what sheets do i need for a split king adjustable bed>

On a Split King each mattress will be a Twin XL (Extra Long). So you'll need Twin XL Fitted Sheets for the Mattresses. Across the top of the bed you'll use a regular King top sheet, blanket, comforter....etc.

What are the pitfalls of a Split Queen?

To properly address this we'll compare two sizes, a Split King vs a Split Queen.

A Split King uses two Twin XL (Extra Long) mattresses. A Twin Xl is an industry standard mattress size. You can buy these mattresses, mattress covers and fitted sheets pretty much anywhere now and in the future. Twin XL mattresses are the standard size mattresses used in Colleges all over the country. Because of this they are WIDELY available.

A Split Queen uses a 1/2 Queen mattress. This is NOT an industry standard size. We have one mattress available in the Split Queen size. Or, you'll need to find an all foam Queen mattress you like locally and get the factory to cut it in half and wrap (upholster) each side. This is a custom order and you'll need to talk to the store manager or owner. The sales people will usually have NO idea what you need.

Then we come to the mattress covers (protectors) and fitted sheets. Once again these need to be custom. They're available but extremely limited. They're also significantly higher in cost.

If your bedroom size won't allow you to use a Split King and the Split Queen is the only thing that will fit, we understand. We just want you to completely understand all the issues before we simply "take your order" and let you figure it out later.

What are the pitfalls of a Split California King?

To properly address this we'll compare two sizes, a Split King vs a Split California King.

A Split California King uses a 1/2 California King mattress. This is NOT an industry standard size. We have a "few" mattresses we can furnish in the Split California King size. Or, you'll need to find an all foam California King mattress you like locally and get the factory to cut it in half and wrap (upholster) each side. This is a custom order and you'll need to talk to the store manager or owner. The sales people will usually have NO idea what you need.

Then we come to the mattress covers (protectors) and fitted sheets. Once again these need to be custom. They're available but extremely limited. They're also significantly higher in cost.

If you feel you have to have a Split California King we understand. We just want you to completely understand all the issues before we simply "take your order" and let you figure it out later.

How much does an adjustable bed base cost?

How much you got? Just kidding! Each retailer is allowed to set their pricing. What we aren't allowed to do is advertise a low price. Therefore you need to call us to get the best price we can offer you.

Will I still need a bed frame?

First let's define the phrase "Bed Frame". You could be referring to the basic steel frames that support the box spring or you could be talking about a wood frame which consists of a head board, foot board, side rails, slats...etc.

If you're referring to the steel frame..that goes away. If you're referring to the wood frame it gets gutted. You'll remove the slats and any center legs or supports and the adjustable bed will fit inside the wood frame. Then the wood frame simply serves a decorative function. The Adjustable Bed is self supporting on it's own legs.

On every model we state whether the bed will work with your existing bed frame. We're referring to the wooden decorative frame, NOT the basic steel frame.

A Leggett & Platt adjustable bed has its own legs, which raise your bed off the floor. You don't need a wooden bed to use ANY model. It's just that on a few models (the upholstered ones that look like furniture) you can't use a wood frame.

Can I use an L&P adjustable bed base with my existing bedroom furniture?

Yes. Leggett & Platt adjustable bases are designed according to industry-standard bed sizes. The base easily attaches to most standard-size headboards Even if your bed has side rails, the base is meant to fit inside most of these pieces, similar to a standard box spring. Additionally, you might want to check out our photo gallery to see how Leggett &Platt adjustable bases integrate with a wide range of bedroom furniture.

Does it require special sheets?

No. Leggett & Platt adjustable bed bases are compatible with standard fitted sheets. However, if you purchase a split king (a base where the left and right sides move independently with two mattresses), you will need to use two twin XL fitted sheets – one for each side.

If you're considering a Split Queen or a Split California King make sure to read the paragraphs above addressing these sizes.

Will my bedskirt fit?

Standard sizes will fit the bed, but you may have to cut holes in the platform of the skirt to accommodate the mattress retainer. If so, it is recommended that you iron a fusible interfacing onto the back of the skirt platform for reinforcement; this will help prevent future unraveling after washing. Another suggestion to prevent unraveling is to sew buttonholes into the bedskirt.

Do L&P adjustable bed bases come with a mattress?

No. The base is an independent part of the bed that replaces the box spring. The adjustable-friendly mattress of your choice rests on top of the base.

Will I still need a box spring?

No. A Leggett & Platt adjustable bed base takes the place of your box spring. You place your mattress directly on top of the base. If you have a bed with side rails, the base fits inside most bed frames and then the mattress fits on top.

where's the best place to buy an adjustable bed?

Richmond Bedding of course. Did you REALLY expect us to say anything else? But seriously, no one will treat you better. No one has the free extended warranties we give our customers. And if you take the time to explore our reviews on the "About Us" page, you'll find that no one has a better online reputation than Richmond Bedding.

What is the zero-gravity position?

The zero-gravity position on an adjustable bed base mimics the position astronauts take during liftoff. The position is meant to ease the stress on their bodies as they escape earth’s gravity. The position raises the feet to the same level as the heart. People who have back pain or who would like to increase their circulation often find this position extremely relaxing.

What does Wallhugger mean?

Leggett & Platt’s innovation team developed state-of-the art technology that puts you at the center of the bed’s motion. While other adjustable bed bases lift your upper body away from the wall – and away from your nightstand – bases with Wallhugger engineering lift you up while simultaneously gliding you back. That means your favorite book and the remote control are within reach whenever you’re ready for them.

What is the difference between the Powerlift and Whisper Quiet motors?

This is now old information. All the current Leggett & Platt models now have 700 lb DC Motors. In earlier years, on certain models you had to decide which motors you wanted. This is no longer the case.

They are primarily distinguished by their weight-lifting capacity. The Powerlift motor has a weight-lifting capacity of up to 700 lbs. The Whisper Quiet motor has a weight-lifting capacity of up to 450 lbs.

How much does my adjustable bed base weigh?

On average the bases weigh between 150-200 lbs. The Twin XL's are right at 150 lbs and the Queen size is right at 200 lbs.

What is LP Sense?

LP Sense is the industry's leading safety system for adjustable bed bases. It helps prevent people or pets from being pinched when the bed is being returned to the flat position. Ask your retailer for a demonstration.
